Werner Sobek stands throughout the world for engineering, design, and sustainability. We work on all types of buildings and materials. Special emphasis lies on lightweight structural design, transparent facade systems, and sustainable building concepts. 

The foundation of all our planning activities is the endeavour to design buildings, urban districts and cities that secure and promote human health. A significant cornerstone of our thought and action is the Triple Zero® concept.  

Following this concept, our projects should not consume more energy than they generate from renewable sources on average per year (Zero Energy); they should not produce any emissions of carbon dioxide or other substances that are harmful to people and the environment (Zero Emissions); and it should be possible to fully reintroduce them into the materials cycle (Zero Waste). 

The Urban Mining and Recycling (UMAR) Experimental Unit demonstrates how a responsible approach to dealing with our natural resources can go hand in hand with appealing architectural form. The project is underpinned by the proposition that all the resources must be fully reusable, recyclable or compostable and means that UMAR functions simultaneously as a material laboratory and a temporary material storage.
